ABOUT THE ROUTE 20 ASSOCIATION

The Route 20 Association of New York State is an all-volunteer membership organization formed in 1999 to preserve the heritage and beauty of our section of this historic transcontinental corridor. A not for profit corporation, the Association is governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors representing the seven counties through which our portion of Route 20 passes: Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego, Schoharie and Schenectady.

In 2003 the Association began the process to seek New York State Scenic Byway Status. After two years of hard work and dedication by members of the Board of Directors and numerous other volunteers, Scenic Byway status was granted in 2005. Traveling through 27 municipalities, the Scenic Byway covers 108 miles of US Route 20 from Duanesburg on the east (Schenectady County) to LaFayette on the west (Onondaga County). Today the Route 20 Association of NYS serves as the official stewards of the Route 20 Scenic Byway and continues to work to preserve history along Route 20 and in the Byway corridor which extends approximately 30 miles on either side of Route 20. The Association also works to promote travel on Route 20, with visits to the corridor communities through a series of Scenic Tours. Public input is welcomed. Please take the time to sign up for the Association's E-Newsletter and/or use the Contact Us to give us suggestions or tell us your "story" of travel on Route 20 and in the corridor communities. Photos would be most welcome.
